The year 2010 – in some sentences

This year we worked a lot for the popularisation of our group and thanks to it we 4 times organised open training matches in 3 cities (Szeged, Gyöngyös, Mezőkövesd). Our participation in the media with a higher rate than before let hopefully known our favourite sport with a lot of people.

Also the number of the training times has well increased: the group collects almost every week.
Autumn we formed our club of own. Its name is: WildBoars Wheelchair Rugby Association.

This year we were also abroad.
In March we were invited to Radom (Poland) in order to look at a great National cup and it was very impressive.
In October we took part in our first competition in Ostrava (Czech Republic) where we collected a lot of experiences and some friends.

The last training of the year Mónika Lánczy surprised the persons present with our pictured logo made out of honey-cake. A lot of thanks for the kind gift and we wish everybody Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Association

Late in the summer 2010 we formed our unit of own. Its name is WildBoars Wheelchair Rugby Association so our membership defected in the Guriga Sport Association.

We should like to thanks to György Legeza for the lot of help.

Ostrava Cup 2010

David Lukes, the team captain of Sitting Eagles, has drawn our attention to a competition organized not very far, so we decided to enter for the 12th Ostrava Cup. The competition was held in Ostrava, in the Czech Republic from 8 to 10 October.

Eight teams entered for the competition: 5 Czech, 2 Polish and us. There were some familiar faces, from the training camp at Kemenesmihályfa and the Polish League held in March. Since we have arrived without a trainer, David gave us some good tactical advice and helped us borrowing some chairs so that we could change people during the play.

The semifinals were on Friday afternoon and on Sunday all day, finals on Sunday morning and the last match between the two best teams started at 1 PM. Our team stepped on court altogether four times, so we played appr. 6 hours real game and we experienced during this time a lot of unknown things.

At the announcement of the results we were separately highlighted like a new team playing for the first time, and everyone started cheering.

Altogether the whole event was very positive for us, despite the fact that we finished on last position. We took the first step towards real competition, we will enter next year again.

Summary of Mezőkövesd

We held a training at Mezőkövesd on 28 and 29 August. On the Saturday afternoon open training the town citizens could participate, mainly relatives, friends and acquaintances came to see us. After all feedback everyone really liked our training.

The training was held at the City Sports Hall of Mezőkövesd, thanks to Hegedűsné Majnár Márti. As usual we had a few flat tyres, had to change some tyres, some chairs were broken… luckily we had some help to ease these problems.

After the hard training we had our dinner at Kispápa restaurant. Here I would like to express my thanks for the excellent dinner and service to the restaurant staff just like for lots of cookies to my family and friends.

We slept at Bayer Róbert Hostel, which was suitable for us in terms of handicap expectations.

Sunday morning we had a training again, it was a long time ago when we had so much time for practice, warm up and tactical issues. After the weekend trainings we got really tired and now eagerly can look forward to the next camp and new occasions to play again.

I would like to thank for the help and support!

Thanks to: Kispipa Étterem, Agrár-Coop Kft, Rozetta-Coop Kft, Matyó Agrártermelő Zrt, Pólik Tibor entrepreneur and also to the staff of the Sports Hall.

TRAINING CAMP

We started the training camp held at the beginning of August with eight players and eight helpers at Gyöngyös. During the three days we had 5 trainings, morning and afternoon 3-3 hours. We never had the chance to spend such a long continuous time to play our favorite game, so this was an outstanding occasion, which – remembering now – we could fully take an advantage of.

Of course we were totally exhausted, burning hands and stiffness everyone felt, but despite these effects even on the last training everyone excitedly was chasing the ball… : )

Our apartment at Mátrafüred was excellent, which I suggest to anyone on two feet or rolling on four wheels, furthermore there was nothing to complain about the two sports halls, lots of thanks again for using them free of charge to the major and local authority of town of Gyöngyös, and also Sportfolio Gyöngyös Ltd. And Mátra Party Kft. didn't leave us hungry. Thanks to them again very much!

We have already started to plan the next training camp at Gyöngyös, hopefully we will have the chance to have the sufficient financial background to organize it again.

We introduced the Hungarian team to Toledo

Public Life Café program series operates appr. for 20 years, the main theme in July was Toledo-Szeged brotherhood contact.

The Hungarian guests were from Toledo and we were also invited, Endre introduced our team.

The main organizer of the Toledo Hungarians is Erzsébet Bálint, who we talked to and asked her to give a helping hand to the team, even in creating foreigner relationship for us.

Talks before the Football WC

On 11th July our team again had the chance to introduce ourselves at Szeged thanks to the Dél-Magyarország daily newspaper, in the fan club held at Széchenyi square.

In the event two team members from Szeged could participate, who was there could talk to László Farkas and Endre Major.

Training camp 2010

In August 5-8 edzőtáborozunk up again, this time Gyöngyös!

Our accommodation Frankó Pension Mátrafüred will be in two places and we will work out: One of the Beaded Municipal Sports Hall and the other is the John Berze High School gymnasium, also Gyöngyös.

In the training that all visitors are welcome!

Summary of our camp in Szeged

Our rugby weekend camp in Szeged at the beginning of July was succesfull again. We had two workouts and were able to practice and play a lot.

This time there was not such a big audience as it was in June but many of them tried themselves in the wheelchairs.

By now we also collected all of the TV reports about us:

Szeged again

This time we are going to train on Etelka Street in the Sportshall on the 3rd of July (Saturday) from 2pm until 6pm and also on the 4th of July (Sunday) from 9am until 12pm. Everyone is welcome.

Watcing of the Soccer World Cup and chatting

The local daily newspaper, Délmagyarország, organized a supporters' club on Széchényi Square on the 12th of June (Saturday) for the occasion of the Soccer World Cup where two of our team members, Endre and Laci were guests as well. On this event they got an invitation for the final games on the 11th of July when they will be having a live chat again in front of the audience.

A summary of Szeged Games

Our last camp weekend was really succesful in Szeged. So far unfortunately not too many people knows wheelchair rugby as well as our team and probably that was one big reason why not too many of them visited our open games. But honestly those who came on this day to the center they really liked what they saw and were very satisfied and happy for us.

After us playing in the special chairs those who were brave and curious enough could try the chairs and this game themselves. I guess I do not have to say they were not disappointed at all.

This time was our media coverage the biggest:
the local TV of Szeged town was there, two of the biggest Hungarian TV Channels were also there ( the staff of TV2 and MTV1), Radio88 and a journalist from the local daily newspaper, Délmagyarország (read the article).

Thank you very much for our supporters to ensure the necessary conditions for this event and also we would like to thank all the organization jobs for Ágnes Herczeg!

Open camp in Szeged

We welcome everyone on our open workout camp on the 5th of June 2010 from 2pm in the main Sportcenter in Szeged ( 33 Temesvári Boulevard).

A new report about us

The staff of LifeNetwork made a report with us on our last training session. (watch here)

Recent activities

In he past month, we had a successful training camping. We gained a lot of useful information, we had the opportunity to try out the professional wheelchairs of our Czech  friends. And under the supervision of trainer Marco Dispaltro (of the Swedish Team) and two scoring leaders – who already participated at two paraolympic games – Sofia Beloka ands Ulrica Ulfson, we had exciting tournaments and matches.

Also joined us and participated a trained category-expert, Lotta Krossén, she made a category-tree for our Team, so from now on, everybody is aware his position in the group, so with this certificate, it enabled us to participate in regular championships.

We have got a few wheelchairs – of which were already used in previous competitions – and this further improved our capabilities.

The invited guests supplied us useful advices, and the Czrech Team offered a joint training camp with them for the coming next year.

We would like to express our thanks and gratitude for the accomodation and support to MEVISZ and NEKO Hungarian Spine Foundation.

Traning Camping

We have spent a nice week at Kemenesmihalyfa, starting at 13th of November, 2009 with members of the Swedish and Czech Teams.

MERI 2

The Special Sporting Day of OORI and MEOSZ was held again on 6th of June, 2009, when attendees were able to watch wheelchair rugby competition.

On 14th of March, 2009, TV-M2 made a video clip on our Team, and they made an interview with Edit and Hetei. These clips and interviews were aired on 23rd of March at 9.50 AM in the show of "Spot under the Sun".

update: from the archives of TV-M2 our clip was edited and posted on YouTube, it can be watched here: Click here.

Training again!

We had our regular, used-to-be-training on February 28, 2009.
Endre introduced, and proudly showed his self-made rugby-wheelchair, which was a bit heavy, since it was constructed from steel bars.
Using Endre's design, Hetei is about to make his own rugby-wheelchair, hopefully from aluminium alloy tubes. We hope, that his efforts will be successful ! Cross your fingers for this !

News and Developments in January

We had training session on 17th of january, we have found a trainer, Gabor Ramocsa, who accepted our request to train our Team.
Since he is well versed in training para-sporting players, we will have a good preparatory work from now on.

Another good news: on 22nd of January the Guriga Sporting Association established a Rugby Wheelchair Section.

We would like to express our gratitude to Association President Gyorgy Legeza, that OORI support us, providing us a special sport-therapy training hall.

Training at some time in January

In December 13rd was a training, where we played again, everybody enjoyed the game and we started to perceive the essence of the game.
Chairs are still not available, unfortunately, but it is also formed.
Hopefully sometime early next year will become the official team, which will greatly facilitate our future operations.
The next training will be sometime in January, more info will be arranged.

Things are going

The training in 23rd of November was very successful, but the number of participants was low. Anyone who was there, at the end of the training could try out how went the game live- very- an amateur level.
From the Rehab Ltd. we received a test rugby wheelchair, which is need lot of changes to be implemented, but if done to us, it will be a good start. Unfortunately, nobody has had able to try it, because it is too small.

2008. November 23rd the next training!

The first training was success, we kept it with participation of seven people and started the development. Pictures made soon expose them. We couldn't gain gloves and wheelchairs, so that is still pending.
The nex occasion will on November 23rd (Sunday) 10 hours, in the Rehab Center.

2008. November 8th the first training!

Many people attended the last meeting and decided the date of the first training:
2008. November 8th .
So the specially rugby wheelchairs not yet available, everybody will train their own wheelchair.
We will find out how to stabilize safely ourself with belts, straps or even that there are. We will looking for solutions for the gloves too.
